Does this version use DTE, and if not, do you plan to implement it? The DTE assignment is already present, but unused in the present dialogue for some inexplicable reason. That alone would probably save about 45-50% more space.
How usable is the text editor at present?

It doesn't at the moment - I'd have to investigate the existing codes. The French and German versions do make use of it (which is why the dialogue looks like garbage if you load those roms in the editor right now). I hadn't realized the patterns existed for the English as well.. I'll check this out when I have time.
Optimally I'd run through the dialogue and generate the patterns myself to minimize the size of the data.. this depends on how difficult they'd be to modify.. I'd guess there's just a table somewhere in the rom.
At present? The text editor works. It displays in the game font, and shows the width of the dialogue box. It needs some work, though, like everything else. :3 The event editor in general is minimally usable at best right now.

Thanks. Text is all I really need to modify, and datacrystal has a table file with the DTE if you want to save some trouble. I've already done some menu insertion, and I was hoping to save some time on dialogue extraction and reinsertion with the editor. 68.47.142.177/stuff/mana003.png - can look at this if you want an idea of what I've done thus far I do need to move some text on some menus around for aesthetic reasons, and i need to expand one window thus far, but that's it outside actual text editing.

I originally envisioned it being used for complete game redesigns, but it should work for that as well. The current version bumps the rom up to 32 megabits, but you probably wouldn't need all of that, particularly if you're making use of DTE. Down the line sometime I'll probably have it expand the rom as needed, rather than adding 2 megabytes all the time. Not that 4 megabyte roms are a big deal, but it would bloat your IPS patches unnecessarily.

I may consider some kind of full redesign down the road. The editor just happened to conveniently pop up while I was doing this, so I was curious. Whenever you get enemy stats inserted I'll definitely be interested, since I'm wanting to dabble in some kind of rebalancing effort.
Don't want to rush you on whatever you're doing though, as I'm still debating using the original rom versus trying to break the encryption on the VWF version, which looks nicer.

It will be a while still before what I'm working on is really useful. Hopefully I'll be able to load Fusoya's VWF rom in time as well.
Thanks for the info on DTE - it should be useful.

Figuring out how the DTE stuff actually works...that is going to be a fun one At the very least, it doesn't look like it comes about accidentally...
